Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) is a pioneering science university in Finland, bringing together the fields of science and business since 1969.
Our international community is composed of approximately 6,500 students and experts engaged in scientific research and academic education.
Our strength lies in our way of working together across scientific and departmental boundaries. We are constantly expanding our networks in both the business and the academic community.
Problem solvers
We produce problem solvers, and we provide solutions to global environmental and economic challenges. We focus on demanding topical issues, such as the mitigation of climate change and the continuous availability of clean water and energy.
Our expertise in energy is reflected in our Green Campus, a unique research and study environment.
Business cooperation
LUT has a tradition of strong links with the business community. The Finnish business journal “Talouselämä” has ranked LUT as the best university in business technology cooperation in Finland. We promote business generated by scientific research. This is demonstrated by the university’s own investment company Lureco, which supports LUT’s research-based start-up companies.
International Affairs
We aim to be a forerunner in education by securing international quality labels for our degree programmes as a sign of excellence in the teaching. In the autumn of 2012, nearly 33 per cent of our new students were foreign nationals.
The level of our research is high according to an international evaluation (source: Research Assessment Exercise, RAE).
Values
Our work supports our values: the courage to succeed, the passion for innovation through science, and the will to build well-being.
LUT School of Technology
LUT Energy
As the largest energy research and education organization in Finland, LUT Energy awards bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering, environmental technology and energy technology and master’s degrees in technology.
With more than 200 experts, we have a command of the entire energy chain from environmentally friendly energy sources to end use: fuels, energy generation technologies, electricity networks and markets, and energy use and production processes.
LUT Chemtech
LUT Chemtech’s main areas of expertise are in separation technology, process development and applied research in the fibre and paper industries.
LUT Chemtech provides education for experts in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering, and wood-processing technology for careers in the process and forest industry, in both the business and public sectors.
LUT Mechanical Engineering
The research at LUT Mechanical Engineering relies on solid core competence in machine design and production. The research emphasises a strong, scientific approach but also leaves room for applied research.
The strength of LUT Mechanical Engineering is its holistic view, from process management and the design of devices, equipments or machines to considerations related to manufacturability and operability.
LUT Mathematics and Physics
LUT Mathematics and Physics, LUT MaFy consists of three laboratories: Applied Mathematics, Physics, and Machine Vision and Pattern Recognition.
LUT MaFy offers high-level research expertise in computational engineering, industrial process modelling, and materials science. The Department is responsible for Degree Program in Computational Enginering which educates masters and doctors specialized in applied mathematics, technical physics, and intelligent information processing for various tasks in the modern society.
