The international network BalticNet-PlasmaTec connects SME, research institutes, users and other partners who deal with plasma technology. Plasma technology is used as a cross section technology and key technology in a lot of different uses as for example surface treatment, sterilisation by packaging, biomedical uses and exhaust air cleaning. A technical main focus on the network is the application of plasma in the environment protection. The aim in particular is to further develop the known methods of the exhaust air treatment with plasmas, so that different compound exhaust gases can be treated. In a short feasibility study together with the Polish partners it should be verified at the beginning of the project, how the available plasma filters principles for the different industrial tasks are suitable. With the results of the preliminary tests an application should be initiated to the transnational cooperation for the Baltic Sea Region (Interreg IVb – Baltic Sea Region) – with the main focus promotion of innovation (transnational technology transfer and cluster development). Other potentially interested partners should be acquired from the industry of the BSR (Baltic countries, Scandinavia, Northwest Russia) for the project cooperation in preparation of the application.
By the necessary development of mobile applicable plasma filter models from the available functional model which are needed for the test, it is possible to participate on the experiences by the development of space air filters which produces meanwhile a SME. Within the scope of this project the filter models should be examined for suitability concerning scalability, active power, flow behaviour, as well as the mechanical qualities. A main focus is the not catalytic decomposition of organic exhaust gas components (e.g., VOC-removal) and another main focus is the reduction of NOx and SOx. Within the scope of the reduction perhaps the combination with catalytic procedures is necessary. Besides, the first knowledge about the active mechanisms (ozone reaction, use radicals, ion reactions) should be gathered. Thereby statements are to be won to optimisation and scaling possibilities.
The aim is to initiate an Interreg IVb-application together with the partners from Germany and Poland after the end of the preliminary tests. The development of exhaust filter system with industrial plants should be realised in the context of this activity.
